Our Story

Angelo Sotiropoulos' life story epitomizes the American Dream. In 1972, on December 18th, Angelo arrived on our shores. Early on he learned the value of hard work. He became "The best dishwasher in Massachusetts". It was this drive that led him to seek greater opportunity in Maine.

In 1978, Angelo joined his brother in Falmouth and opened the Falmouth House of pizza. Using lessons he learned in Boston, and innate senses of hard work and community, the restaurant was a success.

Striking out on his own, Angelo headed for Gorham. During this time he was raising a family, daughters Fotine and Martha and son George. In 1981 the Gorham House of Pizza opened. Angelo worked long, long hours. Sometimes from 8:00 AM until midnight, and every weekend while always keeping a smile on his face. During the re-opening of GHOP the challenges and certain success was unknown.

The first eight months was a battle, Angelo and others were uncertain GHOP was going to make it, but the willingness and believing what he did was the right thing, Angelo did not quit. In life, Angelo believes in giving 110% and not giving up. Putting in time and effort is the recipe for success. Angelo credits Gorham Savings Bank for "Saving his life". Greg Palmer, president of Gorham Savings Bank, said "We believed in Angelo and his business. We have the greatest respect for him".

Some of Angelo's greatest fans can be found in his community. Gerry Durgin, the athletic director at Gorham high School, can't say enough. "Angelo is a modern day businessman with old-time values". "GHOP is always a community hub". "He leads with his heart". When Gorham High School held its Sportsmanship Summit, Angelo delivered 55 pizzas at one time, and no one has had to ask twice with a favor. At one time or another, Gorham House of Pizza has sponsored adult basketball and girls softball. GHOP has also won appreciation awards from the Gorham Jaycees. Angelo has been inducted into Gorham's Athletic Hall of Fame and the National Honor Society. You might call him a bedrock of the community.

Angelo has great appreciation for the support he receives back from the community. All the love that comes in, Angelo sends back out to you!
